UM, TREE MORTALITY, OH, EXCUSE ME. WHEN WE FINISH PLANTING THIS WINTER, RTP HAS REMAINING GRANT FUNDS THAT'S REBUILDING TOGETHER PETALUMA, UM, WELL KNOWN FOR THEIR JOBS TRAINING PROGRAMS, WHICH WE HAVE BEEN USING EXTENSIVELY FOR SUMMER WATERING AND OTHER THINGS. AND THEY WILL HAVE GRANT FUNDING LEFT TO CONTINUE THE SUMMER WATERING UNTIL THE GRANT EXPIRES IN 2028. UM, BUT OUR FUNDING WILL BASICALLY BE FINISHED UP IN DECEMBER. THERE'S ONE OTHER GRANT THAT WE'RE WORKING ON. IT'S A HEALTHY PETALUMA GRANT FOR $20,000 AND, UH, IT WAS AWARDED TO US EARLY THIS YEAR. WE MADE A PROPOSAL TO THEM THAT WE WOULD CREATE A ROADMAP OR A PLAN TO GET TREES INTO THE HOT, UM, CONCRETE COMMERCIAL SECTORS OF THE CITY, MANY OF WHICH LIE ALONG THE 1 0 1, WHICH IS ANOTHER WHOLE PROBLEM OF ITSELF, BADLY WANTING TREES. BUT, UM, WE, WE ARE GONNA START WITH THIS PLAN THAT HEALTHY PETALUMA IS FUNDING OUR STAFF TO WRITE, AND THEY'RE WORKING ON THAT NOW. HOPE TO FINISH IN SEPTEMBER. BY THE WAY, THE PLAN WILL INCLUDE CONTACT INFORMATION AND OWNERSHIP SO THAT WHEN THE FUNDING IS OBTAINED TO ACTUALLY PLANT THE TREES, UH, WE WILL BE ABLE TO INITIATE IMMEDIATELY, YOU KNOW, OUTREACH TO THE OWNERS AND NEGOTIATIONS. SOME OF THAT MAY BE DONE THIS SUMMER, DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH TIME THIS TAKES. UM, SECOND ITEM TREE MORTALITY. WE PROVIDED SOME STATISTICS TO, UM, JEN TO, UH, ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS, WHICH WE'VE HAD AND OTHERS MAY HAVE HAD AS WELL. AND WE ARE, OUR, OUR TREE MORTALITY STATISTICS ARE ABOUT AS GREAT AS WE THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE, THANK GOODNESS, BECAUSE WE HADN'T HAD A CHANCE TO COMPILE THEM UNTIL NOW. AND I GUESS JEN WILL REPORT ON THAT A LITTLE BIT WHEN I MEAN, IT'S, OVERALL IT'S ABOUT 4% AND THAT IS WITH THREE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, EXCUSE ME, FOUR YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. SO THAT'S A REALLY STELLAR RATE. UM, OUR GRANT TOURS ALLOW UP TO 10% BEFORE THEY START REQUIRING US TO REPLACE SPECIFIC TREES. SO WE ARE UNDER THAT LIMIT, UM, WHERE WE WOULD NEED TO REPLACE. AND WE'RE OUTSIDE OF SOME OF THE GRANT DEADLINES ANYWAY, SO WE'RE REALLY HAPPY. AND IT'S QUITE A LIST OF REASONS WHY WE'VE LOST TREES. BUT YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED. WE HAD TWO BIG EVENTS THAT WIPED OUT SERIOUS NUMBERS OF TREES. ONE WAS 25 TREES WE LOST AT WISEMAN PARK, AND IT HAD TO DO WITH A MASSIVE IRRIGATION FAILURE THAT WENT ON UNDETECTED AND UN UNDERSTOOD FOR A VERY LONG TIME. AND BASICALLY DROWNED A LOT OF OUR TREES DURING THE DROUGHT . THE OTHER WAS 12 TREES, AND I FORGET WHERE THEY WERE, BUT IT WAS SOME OTHER, YOU KNOW, EVENT LIKE THAT THAT COULDN'T BE CORRECTED UNTIL THE TREES WERE GONE. WE ALSO HAVE RESIDENTS THAT TAKE OUT TREES BECAUSE THEY INTERFERE WITH THEIR VIEW. AND WE HAVE ONE TREE THAT ALL THE DOGS AT GLENBROOK PARK WOULD PEE ON EVERY MORNING WHEN THEY'D GO OUT TO RUN AND THEY KILLED THE TREE WITH THE URIC ACID . SO IT'S, IT'S A COMBINATION OF THINGS THAT HAPPEN, BUT NEVERTHELESS, THIS, THIS IS URBAN TREES AND WE EXPECT IT AND WE HAVE A REALLY GOOD RATE. SO WE'LL JUST TRY TO HOLD ONTO THAT. UM, CASA GRANDE HIGH SCHOOL IS ONE OF THE PLACES WHERE WE'VE PLANTED QUITE A LOT OF TREES AND IT'S AN UNFORGIVING ENVIRONMENT. IT'S A VERY LARGE HOT CAMPUS AND WE HAD TO RELY ON SPRINKLER WATERING FOR THE TREES AS WE DO IN MANY OF THE PARKS. UM, WE RECENTLY WERE OUT THERE TO TAKE STOCK OF OUR PLANTING, WHICH OCCURRED. THIS IS OUR THIRD SUMMER AT CASA GRANDE. I'M TELLING THIS STORY FOR JEN AS MUCH AS ANYTHING 'CAUSE IT WAS SO ENCOURAGING TO US. WE'VE NOT BEEN ABLE TO WATER THIS SUMMER. THEY'VE CUT OFF A LOT OF THE SPRAYS, SO, UM, OUR TREES LOOK FANTASTIC AND TO, TO RELIEF. WE FEEL LIKE IT IS CONFIRMATION THAT WORKING WITH THESE LOCAL NATIVE SPECIES THAT ARE USED TO THE KIND OF CLIMATE THAT WE HAVE HERE, MAYBE IS, IS GONNA PAY OFF BIG TIME FOR US BECAUSE WE PLANTED ABOUT 65 TREES. WE TRIED SOME REALLY UNIQUE TECHNIQUES OF TRIMMING THE TREE, UM, THAT WE LEARNED FROM, UH, WHERE THE TREE ORIGINATES IN NEW ZEALAND FROM PEOPLE WHO TRIM THESE IN NEW ZEALAND FREQUENTLY. SO WE GOT SOME GREAT ADVICE AND IT'S WORKING REALLY WELL. THAT'S GREAT. SO IT'S, IT'S STRUGGLING BUT IT'S COMING BACK AND IT'S LOOKING WONDERFUL. AND THEN OUR COAST LIVE OAK IN THE BACK IS STILL HANGING ON. WE HAVE HAD SOME REALLY ADVANCED TECHNIQUES TO TRY TO SAVE THAT TREE AND AND EXTEND ITS LIFE.
